Cinédoc and Paris Films Coop were created in the
70s. "At that time, there was hardly anything desert
was: neither filmmakers, nor films, no screening venues,
no exhibitions showcasing experimental films… or
so little it was hardly noticeable". Claudine Eizykman
and Guy Fihman took the initiative and created Paris Films
Coop in February 1974, in Paris. In the early days the
Coop was run from their apartment then in 1978 it moved
to 18 rue Montmartre, Paris 1'. In April 1979 Cinédoc
was founded by Claudine Eizykman , Guy Fihman, Prosper
Hillairet, Dominique Willoughby and Catherine Legallou.
Cinédoc had inherited , the archives of the magazine
Melba (1976-79) a literally multi-coloured journal dedicated
to the technological arts, edited by Claudine Eizykman
with the active involvement of Guy Fihman, Prosper Hillairet,
Dominique Willoughby, and Pascal Auger.
Cinédoc has four major objectives :
- to develop an archive of the Avant-garde and experimental
cinema,
- to find films which have been neglected, forgotten,
or lost, of the experimental film heritage such as
those of Hans Richter, Viking Eggeling , Henri Chomette,
Man Ray , David Haxton, Claude Autant-Lara , Alexandre
Alexeïeff , Pippo Oriani (who made one of the
extremely rare futurist films to have been rediscovered), … and
bring them back into circulation,
- curating film exhibitions and programming innovative films,
- providing advice and information to film programmers.
Paris Films Coop and Cinédoc now distribute 675 films and videos
from 165 filmmakers and video artists and Cinédoc has organised events,
retrospectives, and exhibitions including the following :
